IMPACT (Intensive Motivational Program of Alternative Correctional Treatment)
Description
IMPACT is designed to offer a viable alternative to long-term incarceration specifically for young people with their first or second offense. It also strives to lessen the corrections department's financial cost without impacting public safety. IMPACT also offers participants the life skills necessary to ensure that they succeed both inside and outside of prison. Based on the aforementioned goals, IMPACT is arranged and maintained to assist as individuals develop self-confidence, self-respect, a sense of personal responsibility, and respect for others' actions and beliefs. Administrators assess overall program success by the amount of money saved as a result of reduced periods of incarceration; by the number of incarcerated individuals who finish institutional IMPACT, are paroled, and do not return to prison either through violation or a new offense; and by the relative severity of the offense for which individuals reenter the system.
