The New Garden Society

The New Garden Society

Description

The New Garden Society is a community based society that uses horticulture to help justice involved individuals. The organization offers services to currently and formerly incarcerated individuals. Within correctional facilities, individuals can participate in horticulture workshops that cover the basics around gardening and plant culture. These workshops, along with the work of maintaining green spaces inside the prison, offer individuals the chance to gain real world, practical skills while also internalizing what it means to care for something long time. Recently, New Garden Society has opened New Beginnings Reentry Center, a space dedicated to supporting the unique needs of formerly incarcerated women as they return to society through horticulture education, gardening as therapy and a connection to supportive peers. The goal of New Garden Society is to emphasize the importance of nurturing things until they realize their full potential. For more information about their work, contact the organization directly using the information on this page.
