Helping Operations for People Empowerment, or HOPE, is a community based organization serving the people of Detroit. Staff and volunteers at the organization are dedicated to helping individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness, as well as individuals returning to the community after incarceration, through targeted support services that include: health care assistance, job training and placement, financial security workshops, and parenting support. Their SOAR Reading Program is designed to improve literacy for third grade children and intervene before their academic success is in jeopardy. HOPE also provides workshops on preparing resumes and interviewing for employment, wellness and clinic services, and a diaper bank for parents struggling with financial security. The HOPE bakery trains and employs formerly incarcerated individuals in the community. Additionally, HOPE provides Prison Ministry Services that work to prepare individuals for a successful return to the community and provide the referrals necessary to enter transition programs after release.
