People’s Advocacy Institute

Description

People's Advocacy Institute sponsors Mississippi Prison Reform Coalition to protect the rights of incarcerated individuals. The coalition is maintained by the Mississippi Poor People’s Campaign, a collaborative of formerly incarcerated people, families with loved ones in correctional facilities, justice advocacy organizations, and concerned community members insisting that the state of Mississippi immediately lower the prison population, eliminate harmful conditions, policies and practices, and restore the humanity of incarcerated individuals. They have five distinct goals: shift all incarcerated individuals to safe and humane correctional facilities, improve communication with the loved ones of incarcerated individuals, actively reduce incarceration rates, pursue complete investigations into the death of every individual in state custody, and implement restorative programs that give individuals the best chance at permanent rehabilitation. The Mississippi Prison Reform Coalition believes strongly in the power of partnership to improve the lives of justice involved individuals and focus their efforts on rehabilitation.
