Hour Children
Description
Hour Children is a leading provider of family services for women and children in prisons and communities to help them reunite, stabilize, and change their lives. Its names recognize the crucial hours that affect a child's life when their mother is behind bars: the hour of her arrest, the hour of their visitation, and the hour of their reunion. The organization's objective is to assist women who are currently or formerly incarcerated, as well as their children, in effectively reintegrating into society, reuniting with their families, and leading healthy, self sufficient, and secure lives. In addition, Hour Children supports women using their incarceration as an opportunity to become better parents and humans. Its advocacy program assists mothers in keeping open lines of communication concerning matters that might affect their children. The group also runs visiting programs at the Bedford Hills and Taconic Correctional Facilities several times a year. For more information, contact the organization directly.
