Delaware Department of Education – Prison Education
Description
The Delaware Depart of Education Prison Education program facilitates essential educational opportunities to incarcerated individuals. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the program has had to modify its approach to education and support for participants, but they remain committed to ensuring that incarcerated individuals have access to quality educational programs. A strong foundation in academics is essential to their goal of reducing recidivism and ensuring a successful reentry into the community. Coursework provides key skills for entering the workforce, as well as personal development skills necessary to reunify with family and become productive members of the community. Currently, the program is available in the Baylor Women's Correctional Institution, the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center and the Sussex Correctional Institution. Participants have the opportunity to earn high school diploma equivalency certificates and earn certificates in specific job sectors.
