Washtenaw County Conviction Integrity and Expungement Unit
The Washtenaw County Conviction Integrity and Expungement unit is committed to ensuring that justice is upheld in all cases. This unit is a subdivision of the Washtenaw County District Attorney's office and serves in a dual capacity. The Conviction Integrity Unit is tasked with providing a complete and comprehensive examination of all claims of innocence, while the Expungement Unit specifically addresses petitions for expunging records. One of the key differences is that Conviction Integrity Unit focuses on currently incarcerated individuals, while the Expungement Unit works with individuals who have already been released from prison. Those individuals making claims of innocence must demonstrate their claims through the provision of credible evidence not previously considered by the court. Individuals requesting an expunging of criminal records must fill out the required forms and clearly articulate what qualifies them for expungement under Washtenaw County legislation. For more information or to file a petition, individuals may contact the unit directly or through a defense attorney.
