Chicago’s Community Re-Entry Support Centers

Chicago’s Community Re-Entry Support Centers

Description

Chicago's Community Re-Entry Support Centers are part of the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services. These centers exist to provide meaningful and sustainable support for justice involved individuals returning to the community after incarceration. Services are designed to help formerly incarcerated individuals navigate the many barriers and stigmas they may encounter during reintegration due to criminal convictions. These services include one-on-one and peer group mentoring, educational opportunities, job development services and referrals to community based organizations committed to uplifting justice involved individuals. Staff and volunteers can assist individuals as they connect with local treatment centers for mental health and chemical dependence disorders, pursue residential programs for formerly incarcerated individuals and work to obtain government benefits after incarceration. Currently, reentry support services are offered at four physical locations around Chicago to help ease the burden of transportation that may justice involved individuals face. For more information about specific services or to request help during the reentry process, use the contact information provided on the organization website.
