To look for resources by category, you can use the dropdown menu to choose from Employment, Health, Housing, Legal, Reentry or Additional Resources. You can also use the search field to look for specific organizations or resources by name or search by location by entering the city, state, or zip code. If you want to search visually, you can click and drag the map to find resources.
When you click on a resource in the sidebar or on the map, you’ll bring up additional information about that resource, such as the phone number, address, website and email address. You can use this information to reach out to an organization for help or with questions.
If you need help finding a prison, jail or other correctional facility, you can use our “Prisons & Facilities” database by clicking the “Prisons & Facilities” tab on the top menu bar. On that page, you’ll find hundreds of federal, state and local correctional facilities. Much like this page, clicking on a facility will bring up contact information for the facility, such as a phone number and address.

Choose from federal, state, juvenile or women’s facilities to refine your search by category. Use the search field to look up a facility by name or enter the name of a location or zip code. You can also click and drag the map to search visually.
Clicking on a location in either the map or the sidebar will bring up useful information about the facility, including name, phone number, address and more. You can use this information to reach out to a friend or loved one or the facility where they are incarcerated.
If you need to find help for an incarcerated loved one, you can also use our “Resources & Services” section. There, you can find public defenders, reentry assistance programs, job placement programs for formerly incarcerated people and more. Navigating the resource and service database works just the same as this one.
Our mission at How to Justice is to provide useful information and resources for justice-impacted people, their loved ones and people who work in the justice field. We work hard to ensure all information is current and correct, but due to the nature of the correctional system information may not always be updated. If you find any outdated, missing or incorrect information on this page, please let our administrator know so we can fix it immediately.
