ACLU Rhode Island

The American Civil Liberties Union is one of the largest organizations in the country dedicated solely to protecting constitutional rights for all. ACLU Rhode Island is a state-based organization that works in partnership with the national ACLU mission to provide resources, advocacy and litigation support to individuals in Rhode Island whose rights may have been denied. They pursue the mission of social justice equity through lobbying, legislation, public education and representation for individuals whose cases involve a denial of constitutional rights. ACLU Rhode Island is involved in several campaigns, including an active campaign to increase access to public records in Rhode Island. Staff are also working to ensure that individuals throughout the state maintain their basic civil liberties during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as addressing the school-to-prison pipeline and statehouse-to-prison pipeline. Their hope is to reduce recidivism and mass incarceration by disrupting the incarceration cycle at two of the most common sites for repeat offenses. Individuals can contact the organization directly for more information or to discuss potential representation.
