Canaan Development Foundation

Canaan Development Foundation

Description

Canaan Development Foundation is a faith based program that offers emergency housing and support for men in the community. Their goal is to help individuals overcome chemical dependence and the behaviors that put them at risk for using. To do this, members of the Champaign-Urbana Christian community collaborated on the development of SAFE House (Substance Abuse Free Environment). The SAFE House program operates two separate 12-month live-in opportunities, one exclusively for men and another solely for women. Both of these programs are designed around a structured daily schedule that includes GED. and/or adult education coursework, religious devotions, peer group sessions, individualized counseling, community volunteer projects, life skills development classes and weekly sermons. The program offers emergency services and a crisis hotline for individuals facing urgent need, as well as an after care program that provides continued support for graduates of the SAFE House program.
