Fresno County, CA Public Defender’s Office
Description
The mission of the Fresno County Public Defender’s Office is to vigorously protect and defend the rights of indigent clients as guaranteed by the Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution. Their goal is to provide full and fair legal representation with respect and compassion for all. They act as warriors against social injustice and inequality. We work hard and advocate for people in order to restore and affirm their human dignity and values, and to vindicate their legal and human rights. The Public Defender Office is appointed by the Court. If you are charged with a crime and cannot afford to hire an attorney, ask the Court to appoint a public defender at your first appearance. You will be asked to submit a financial declaration to determine your eligibility for appointed counsel. At the conclusion of a criminal case, the court might require clients to reimburse the County for the services provided. Only people convicted are required to reimburse the County. The amount is determined by their ability to pay. For more information on services of the Fresno County Public Defender’s Office, please contact them directly.
