Description
The Fulton County Public Defender's Office is located in Gloversville, NY. The office comprises the Public Defender and six (6) Assistants. The Fulton County Public Defender's Office represents indigent individuals in town, village, city, county and family courts, drug court, integrated domestic violence court, family treatment court and parole matters. In addition, the Public Defender's Office provides legal representation under the United States and New York State Constitutions and federal and state law to individuals who cannot afford to retain legal counsel. The roles and responsibilities of the Fulton County Public Defender's Office are to provide legal representation, consultation, and advice to clients, represent clients through criminal investigative proceedings, create a defense plan, conduct investigative legal research, and interview the necessary clients and witnesses, work closely with clients, discuss relevant information and strategies. An individual must apply for a public defender by completing a detailed financial statement and agreeing to provide documentation concerning income, assets and debts for the person and the person's spouse if any.
