Georgia Public Defender Council’s Division Offices

The Georgia Public Defender Council's Division Offices are located in Atlanta, Georgia. With seven Council members and at over 400 attorneys, they are dedicated to providing zealous criminal defense to low-income Georgians. This office includes the Appellate division, Capital Defense, Mental Health Advocate and State Level Services Division. The Appellate Division is dedicated to representing clients before the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals of Georgia. The Office of the Mental Health Advocate (OMHA) was created to provide services to attorneys representing criminal defendants with mental health challenges. OMHA monitors cases in Georgia involving pleas of Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) and directly represents insanity acquittees. They provide services statewide as a way of assisting attorneys, hospitals, and the courts in criminal cases involving mentally ill defendants. The Capital Defender office handles capital cases for their geographic region and capital conflict representation for nearby regions. If the court has assigned a public defender to your case, please contact the office head in the respective county for assistance.
