Give A Beat Foundation
Give a Beat's mission is to reduce the harmful effects of incarceration through musical education programs that transform lives and inspire communities to take action. They envision a world where those most affected by incarceration are shown compassion, dignity, and empowered to grow their talents and creative careers. By connecting to music industry professionals, they widen the pathway for individuals to heal and thrive. The Prison Electronic Music Program partners with the California Arts Council and the Transformative Arts Program aim to provide a complete curriculum centered on the basic skills of music and beat production, as well as DJ-ing. The On a New Track Reentry Mentoring Program develops relationships between industry professionals and formerly incarcerated individuals to help justice-impacted individuals better understand the business of music production. The Youth Music Production and DJ Program is available to individuals ages 12 to 19 in juvenile halls and re-entry focused programs for youth, as well as through afterschool programs in select schools.
