Description
The 13th Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office represents indigent criminal defendants in Greenville and Pickens counties. The Greenville County Public Defender's Office has one Circuit Public Defender, two Deputy Public Defenders, seven Assistant Public Defenders and six Public Defenders on staff. The Greenville County Public Defender's Office represents defendants in criminal court who are financially indigent. To qualify for an appointed attorney, you must first go through a screening process where you complete a financial affidavit. If you are eligible, an attorney will be appointed to represent you. The South Carolina Commission on Indigent Defense (SCCID) governs the working of the Greenville County Office. The SCCID is responsible for ensuring that all individuals are provided with indigent defense services in South Carolina and provide the highest quality of representation to their clients. In addition, the SCCID sets and enforces standards to ensure consistency across South Carolina and maintain accountability of those persons entrusted with the life and liberty of poor persons charged with crimes.
