Hawthorn Hill

Hawthorn Hill is a community based organization that is committed to assisting families with children who are facing homelessness. Their mission is serve as a catalyst for the development of sustainable housing programs and community support systems that will help end the crisis of homelessness. These programs focus on assisting families achieve independence and permanent, stable housing as well as the tools necessary to develop self-sufficiency. The New Directions Shelter offers emergency shelter and support services to qualifying families with children in the Des Moines community. Residents have access to temporary housing at no cost and work with a case manager to develop a plan of support as parents of children work toward permanent housing. The Home Connection works to move families with children into permanent homes and offers services which stress financial independence. This housing community currently features more than twenty single dwelling spaces, including single family homes, duplexes and one 3-plex.
