Illinois State Appellate Public Defender’s Office
Description
The Office of State Appellate Public Defender (OSAD) is a state agency created by the State Appellate Defender Act. Their central office is located in Springfield, IL. The principal function of the Office of the State Appellate Defender is to represent indigent persons on appeal in criminal cases when appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court, the Appellate Court or the Circuit Court. To provide for this legal representation, the State Appellate Defender has district offices in each of Illinois' five appellate court districts (Chicago, Elgin, Ottawa, Springfield and Mt. Vernon). A nine member board governs the Office of State Appellate Public Defender. The board advises the State Appellate Defender and may, subject to rules of the Supreme Court, recommend policies for the operation of the office of the State Appellate Defender.
