Jackson County Conviction Integrity Unit

Jackson County Conviction Integrity Unit

Description

The Jackson County Conviction Integrity Unit is a subdivision of the Jackson County District Attorney's office. Their mission is to ensure that all cases handled by the District Attorney result in justice. They do this by providing a through and objective review of all claims of innocence filed with the District Attorney's office. Eligible cases must relate to currently incarcerated individuals who are serving time for a conviction carried out by the Jackson County Superior Court. Petitioners must also provide credible and relevant evidence not previously presented in court, or demonstrate how new technology can provide necessary testing unavailable at the time of conviction. Though the Conviction Integrity Unit most often considers claims of innocence, staff do also evaluate other claims of wrongful conviction and cases where petitioners receive excessive sentences in relation to the nature of their charges. For more information about the work of the unit, individuals may contact staff directly or through a defense attorney.
