Jackson County, GA Public Defender’s Office
Description
The Jackson County Public Defender's office is located in Jefferson, Georgia. With one public defender, the office provides representation to all indigent defendants with the exception of those with whom the office has a conflict of interest arising from representation of other defendants in Jackson County's Superior, State, Juvenile, and Magistrate Courts for whom the right to counsel attaches. The office also represents defendants on direct appeals to the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court. The Public Defender’s office provides legal representation to indigent defendants in Jackson who cannot pay for private counsel and who are at risk of losing their liberty if convicted. The Sixth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees the rights of criminal defendants, including the right to a public trial without unnecessary delay and the right to a lawyer. Applications for public defender services are available by the door at the Office of the Public Defender. Contact the office for Juvenile Court and Spanish applications.
