Kentucky Bar Association – Legal Aid Programs
Description
Legal Aid Problems is a subdivision of the Kentucky Bar Association that serves individuals who require assistance with court matters. All individuals must first participate in an intake interview to determine eligibility. Those who qualify will be directed to an attorney who is able to offer advice over the phone. Some legal matters are complex and may require more intensive counsel. In these situations, individuals will be encouraged to visit their local office in order to discuss the issue in more depth. Following this initial discussion with an attorney, the local office will make a determination regarding whether or not Legal Aid Programs is able to take the case. These decisions are dependent upon the facts and evidence of the case, as well as the caseload of attorneys within the organization. Some individuals may not be offered services from Legal Aid Programs. Those individuals receive a referral to a private attorney or an attorney who has offered to consider the case at no cost to the client.
