Life Skills Reentry Program at Roosevelt University

Description

The Life Skills Reentry Program at Roosevelt University provides reentry services to individuals released from IDOC facilities who are returning to Cook County and collar counties. The Department of Human and Community Renewal (DHCR) operates the Life Skills Reentry Program, providing case management, job readiness training, referrals for reentry services, and continuing education. Since its inception, the Life Skills Reentry Program has served over 18,000 clients. However, they have begun to focus more on individualized attention for clients in recent years—Roosevelt University’s commitment to social justice through academic program development and civic engagement is achieved with the help of DHCR. DHCR is charged with a mission to create opportunities, restore hope, and renew the human spirit. The DHCR serves the disadvantaged adult populations of Metropolitan Chicago, primarily formerly incarcerated returning to the Cook County area. Their primary focus is to reduce the prison population while decreasing crime in the community. In addition, they work to interrupt the cycle of crime by improving the quality of life of former offenders through program activities designed to provide support and individualized attention during the critical reentry process.
