Louisiana Appleseed
Louisiana Appleseed solves the state's most challenging problems at the root cause by advocating for access to justice, opportunity, and education. They believe the state will be stronger through fair and equitable access to the courts, the economy, and public schools. To accomplish this, they have built bridges between vulnerable communities and their extensive network of pro bono professionals to develop meaningful and sustainable solutions that help equity take root. Louisiana Appleseed's Access to Justice Program promotes fairness in the state's criminal and civil courts. Both criminal and civil attorneys are generally available to represent individuals who cannot afford an attorney. Yet, both funding streams for these essential services are constantly in jeopardy due to cutbacks and overall reductions in available funding. Therefore, Louisiana Appleseed's projects in this area of programming focus on ensuring fairness and equity in all aspects of the criminal and civil justice systems. Their many projects toward justice include public defense funding, child support and re-entry project, immigration handbook, domestic abuse, representing clients with mental illness, in forma pauperis, pro bono initiative, funding civil legal aid and many more.
