Louisiana Books 2 Prisoners is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization committed to providing free reading material to individuals who are incarcerated. Staff and volunteers send thousands of books each year to individuals who are detained in jails, prisons, and ICE facilities across Louisiana, Alabama, and Arkansas. Louisiana Books 2 Prisoners is operated by a small organizing collaborative, and they have a strong base of dedicated volunteers who help to ensure that incarcerated individuals have continued access to reading materials. They believe strongly in the power of literacy to rehabilitate individuals and better prepare them for successful reentry into the community. One of the core goals is to help facilitate educational growth, which increases job opportunities and sets individuals up for independent living after reintegration.
