Description
The Louisiana Public Defender Board (LPDB) is a state agency within the Office of the Governor, located in Baton Rouge, LA. LPDB was created to serve the public, support practitioners across the criminal justice field and advocate for clients in Louisiana to ensure that Louisiana provides equal justice for all as guaranteed by the Constitution. With one State Public Defender, one General Counsel, one Deputy Public Defender and two Paralegals, the LPDB represents the state of Louisiana on the national level through participation with Department of Justice subcommittees, American Bar Association Standing Committee on Legal Aid and Indigent Defense, the Community Oriented Defender Network and other national criminal justice agencies/organizations. In Louisiana, each Public Defender Office is organized in a Judicial District. There are 42 such districts now in Louisiana. In pursuit of equal justice, the Louisiana Public Defender Board advocates for clients, support practitioners and protects the public by continually improving the services guaranteed by the constitutional right to counsel. Additionally, the Louisiana Public Defender Board oversees the delivery of high-quality legal services affecting adults, children and families and supports community well-being across Louisiana.
