The Mercer County, Public Defender's Office in the Ninth Judicial Circuit is located in Princeton, West Virginia. With a team of one Chief Public Defender, six Assistant Public Defenders, four Legal Secretary, and other support staff, this office provides legal representation to adults and juveniles accused of a crime. The Public Defender ensures that every accused citizen, regardless of financial resources, receives zealous and effective representation as mandated by the United States and West Virginia Constitutions. The Public Defender Services (PDS) administers the Mercer County Public Defender's Office. PDS funds all indigent defense for the State of West Virginia. They provide representation by two methods private attorneys on a court-appointed basis and full-time public defenders at public defender corporations.
