The Metropolitan Public Defender's Main Office and Juvenile Division is located in Nashville, TN. With one Chief Public Defender, one Deputy Chief Public Defender, one Assistant Deputy Chief Public Defender, 50 Adult Division Attorneys, two Education Rights Project Attorneys, three Juvenile Division Attorneys, nine Investigators, and other support legal staff, the Metropolitan Public Defender Office's mission is to defend the liberty, honor and constitutional rights of the individuals, of all ages. Their practice focuses on Criminal Defense cases for Adults and Juveniles. In addition, the Metropolitan Public Defender's Office offers the Metro Guardian ad litem Program (GAL). This program has attorneys on staff who serve as guardian ad litem (a lawyer appointed to advocate for the best interests of a child) in custody, parentage, educational neglect and neglect/dependency cases in Juvenile Court. Additionally, their office also has the Education Rights Project, which provides advocacy and legal representation to Nashville's students with disabilities to help them succeed in school and stay out of the juvenile justice system.
