Description

The Monroe County Conviction Integrity Unit is a subdivision of the Monroe County District Attorney's office. Their mission is to function as an investigatory branch and advisory unit to the District Attorney. the unit reviews petitions filed with the District Attorney's office that make claims of innocence, wrongful conviction or excessive sentencing. The Conviction Integrity Unit first determines whether or not the case is eligible for review by the office. Eligible cases must involve currently incarcerated individuals serving time for convictions handed down by the Monroe County Superior Court. They cannot refer to formerly incarcerated individuals or involve cases that are currently being reviewed by the Appellate Court. Qualifying cases receive a thorough and unbiased evaluation of all facts. Individuals must demonstrate credibility by providing new evidence relevant to the case or show how new technologies allow for testing of existing evidence that was not possible at the time of the original conviction.
