Northwestern District Attorney’s Office Conviction Integrity Committee
Description
The Conviction Integrity Committee is a subdivision of the Northwestern District Attorney's office that looks into claims of innocence. Though the committee is housed within the District Attorney's office, they are committed to ensuring that all claims of innocence receive thorough and unbiased investigation. The first step for all reviews is to establish that the claim of innocence meets eligibility requirements outlined by the District Attorney's office. Most important is that the individual claiming innocence must be currently incarcerated as a result of conviction in the Northwestern Superior Court. The petitioner must also present evidence that is new to the case and which closely supports a claim of evidence. Individuals may also show proof that new technologies allow for more comprehensive testing of evidence already presented at trial. Occasionally, the Conviction Integrity Committee will also review other claims of wrongful conviction, as well as petitions for reduced sentencing accompanied by proof that the initial sentence was unduly harsh related to the charges.
