OAR-Jefferson Area Community Corrections

Description

OAR- Jefferson Area Community Corrections is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to providing safe, evidence-based, cost-effective alternatives to incarceration for Central Virginia. They provide pretrial investigation/supervision, community correction, specialty Courts and dockets, and reentry services. OAR serves people in Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Goochland, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Nelson and Orange counties. In addition, the OAR performs criminal justice planning. The Criminal Justice Planner provides administrative and research support to the Thomas Jefferson Area Community Criminal Justice Board (CCJB) and the Charlottesville/Albemarle Evidence-Based Decision-Making Policy Team. The board’s mission is to enable participating localities to work together to develop community-based pretrial court services and post conviction alternatives to incarceration for misdemeanants and certain nonviolent felons. The planner convenes the Board quarterly to discuss crime and incarceration trends and consider proven alternatives to incarceration that enhance long-term public safety goals.
