Office of the Colorado State Public Defender’s Trinidad Office
Description
The Office of the Colorado State Public Defender's Trinidad office is a branch office located in Trinidad, Colorado. With one state public defender, one first assistant state public defender, two chief deputy public defenders and two chief trial deputies, the Trinidad office serves the Huerfano and Las Animas counties. The mission of the Public Defender's Trinidad Office is to defend and protect the rights, liberties, and dignity of those accused of crimes who cannot afford to retain counsel. They do so by providing constitutionally and statutorily mandated representation that is effective, zealous, inspired and compassionate. The Colorado State Public Defender's office has 21 regional trial offices, a centralized appellate office that handles appeals from every jurisdiction in the state, as well as a centralized state administrative office. They also offer free Collateral Relief Legal Clinics, funded by the Colorado Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program and the Denver Foundation. The clinics provide legal assistance to former offenders who need relief from the negative impacts of a criminal arrest or conviction.
