Description

The Oklahoma County Public Defender's Office is located in Oklahoma City, OK. This office has an Appeals Division, Felony Division, Misdemeanor Division, Investigators and Mental Health Division, led by the Chief Public Defender. Altogether, they provide competent, quality legal representation to indigents in Oklahoma County who are charged with criminal offenses, including misdemeanors, felonies, and capital crimes, and to the convicted clients who wish to appeal their convictions. Additionally, this office can be appointed to represent witnesses in multi-county grand jury cases by order of the Supreme Court of Oklahoma and is statutorily required to notify judges of anyone illegally incarcerated in the Oklahoma County Jail. The court appoints public defenders for defendants who cannot afford to hire private counsel. If you have not bonded out, the court will automatically assign a public defender for you at your first court date, called your arraignment. If you have bonded out and wish to be represented by a public defender, you must fill out an application and present it to the judge at your next court date.
