Description
The Oregon Office of Public Defense Services' Appellate Division is located in Salem. They ensure that eligible individuals have timely access to legal services consistent with Oregon and national standards of justice. The office ensures that eligible individuals have timely access to legal services, consistent with Oregon and national standards of justice. In addition, the Appellate Division provides constitutionally mandated representation in the appellate courts to financially eligible persons in criminal cases, parents in juvenile dependency cases, and inmates appealing administrative decisions from the Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision. Finally, the Appellate Division provides quality appellate representation to eligible individuals in criminal cases, parole cases, and juvenile dependency cases on direct appeal in the state appellate courts and, where appropriate, in the United States Supreme Court. Cases for which OPDS is unable to provide representation due to conflict or capacity are referred to select experienced appellate practitioners that are members of the Oregon Criminal Appellate Panel or the Juvenile Appellate Panel.
