Description
The Polk County Public Defender's Office is located in Columbus, North Carolina. This office consists of Public defenders, Assistant Public Defenders, Legal Assistants and investigators. Polk County falls under 29B Defender District, which also includes the Henderson and Transylvania counties. The attorneys represent indigent persons accused of misdemeanors and misdemeanor probation violations, felonies from classes E through I and felony probation violations, felonies from classes A through D in the District and Superior Courts. The Office of Indigent Defense Services (IDS) oversees the work of Polk County Public Defenders. IDS works diligently to anticipate and resolve systemic issues impacting defenders and their clients. IDS also performs regularly with the Offices of the Capital Defender and Appellate Defender to recruit and evaluate attorneys for their rosters, ensure their appointments in a timely and equitable manner, and support them with expert services.
