Sixth Amendment Center
Sixth Amendment Center is a community based organization that advocates for the protection of constitutional rights. The Sixth Amendment Center works to guarantee that no individual faces potentially serving time in county jail buildings or prison without first receiving the assistance of a lawyer with the time, ability and resources to argue an effective defense, as mandated under the United States Constitution. Staff do this by assessing public defense systems against Sixth Amendment case law and established standards of justice. When gaps are identified, staff assist states and counties while they make their courts more equitable and accessible in ways that encourage public safety and financial responsibility. Sixth Amendment Center collaborates with community stakeholders, legislators and policy advocates to help bridge the gaps that stand in the way of a fair, justice court system.
