Solano County Public Defender’s Office is committed to providing high quality and compassionate legal services to their clients and provides a vigorous defense to ensure that the justice system acts with fairness and protects the rights and dignity of the individuals they represent. The Public Defender also represents minors in wardship proceedings, adults in juvenile dependency matters through a contract with our Courts, petitioners for the restoration of rights, applications for pardons, persons alleged to be sexually violent predators (SVP's) or mentally disordered sex offenders (MDSO's), and mentally ill persons at hearings to determine their mental condition. At the Vallejo felony and misdemeanor unit, attorneys represent individuals charged with felonies and misdemeanors in the Vallejo courthouse. The investigative team locates and interviews witnesses, collects documents and evidence, serves subpoenas and other documents. In the fresh start unit, attorneys help current and former clients terminate probation early and dismiss or seal prior convictions. Furthermore, the Social Workers refer clients to services, recommend treatment plans and alternatives to incarceration and assist attorneys in advocating for clients’ success. The office's conservatorship attorneys represent individuals who are being held on a civil commitment due to a mental illness or developmental disability.
