South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department

The South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Department is an initiative by the State of South Carolina that prepares and assists eligible South Carolinians with disabilities to achieve and maintain competitive employment. Individualized services are provided at offices around the state and may include Assessment for eligibility, career exploration, and planning for employment; Disability management through counseling, therapies, treatments, or assistive devices; Training to enhance skills using instruction and work experiences in their offices, on worksites, or through educational partnerships and Job search assistance to help find competitive employment, and support once the person is on the job. Firstly, the VR department does assessments that involve job shadowing, working with a mentor, or work experience. This process identifies a specific vocational goal and the services needed to help achieve it. Next, Training is given to enhance and increase professional skills, including classroom instruction and hands-on demand driven training; business or information technology training; community-based training (job tryouts, internships, or on-the-job); or post secondary training through vocational schools, technical colleges, or four-year colleges and universities. Lastly, job search assistance to help you identify and secure competitive integrated employment.
