Texas Prisons Community Advocates (TPCA)

Texas Prisons Community Advocates (TPCA) is a community based organization that educates and supports family members, incarcerated individuals and others. Staff connect them to organizational resources, encouraging awareness and advocating for the advancement of humane conditions within Texas Prisons. TPCA also works with legislators to progress historical legislation joining Texas prisons under the same temperature standards that Texas jails are governed by in all its facilities. At TPCA, they help affected family members in navigating the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) system. Their volunteer mediators help the family member mitigate prison condition issues with their loved ones within the TDCJ units. TPCA also advocates for various medical issues and contaminated water. They have formed partnerships with other advocacy organizations to fulfill its vision, train family members, and connect them with incarcerated individuals and organizations. Additionally, TPCA has creatively assigned each day in a week to spread awareness differently. For example, Mail out Mondays refers to writing officials about prison conditions. They also provide letter templates on their website for community members to do the same.
