The Arc Louisiana Disability Legal Resources
The Arc of Louisiana is affiliated with The Arc of the United States, which advocates for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities nationally. Their Louisiana Disability Legal Resources program is a joint effort of The Arc of Louisiana and the ILRU (Independent Living Research Utilization) project to connect legal professionals, human service professionals, advocates, Louisianans with disabilities and their families. The Arc of Louisiana recognized the need for an online resource to share current and accurate information on legal and disability issues, terminology and available resources between the criminal justice and human service systems. In addition, the Arc of Louisiana recognized the need to address the lack of knowledge and understanding of the system for individuals with disabilities and law enforcement. In doing so, they provide training and education to individuals with disabilities, families, human service professionals, and law enforcement on interactions and resources that are available to them. As a result, they have developed an online resource to share current and accurate information on legal and disability issues, terminology and available resources between the criminal justice and human service systems.
