The Exoneration Project
The Exoneration Project is a free legal clinic at the University of Chicago Law School dedicated to the representation of the wrongfully convicted. By dedicating its time and resources to a clinical program, they provide the most rigorous representation of its clients possible, while also providing up-and-coming attorneys exposure in this crucial area of legal work. The Exoneration Project reviews cases of innocence for people who have gone to trial and were found guilty of crimes they did not commit. They consider post-conviction cases across the nation for individuals wrongfully convicted of different types of crimes and with different sentence lengths, including cases where a defendant has served their complete sentence. But, they do not consider cases of self-defense. They also work with community-minded organizations to advocate for our exonerees so that they are able to re-enter society with the support they need to succeed. By investigating and petitioning courts to reverse wrongful convictions, the Exoneration Project is dedicated to restoring justice.
