The WIRE (Women Involved in Reentry Efforts)
Description
Women Involved in Reentry Efforts, or The Wire, is a community organization committed to supporting formerly incarcerated women. All volunteers and staff in the organization are formerly incarcerated women who have broken the cycle of recidivism in their lives and wish to support others who face the same barriers as they return to the community. Women Involved in Reentry Efforts offers peer mentorship and advocacy during and after incarceration, building a community of justice involved women who feel supported and valued. All volunteers in the program have a strong and personal understanding of what it is like for women inside correctional facilities, as well as the barriers they face during reintegration. Their mission is to uplift others just as they have been uplifted, to give back in the hopes of creating a large and sustained community of support for all justice involved women in and around the greater DC area.
