Through the Gate
Through the Gate is a nonprofit organization founded by Steve and Janet Covington to support justice involved women. Their mission is to provide support and encouragement to women working to rebuild their lives through a combination of faith-based guidance and concrete justice services. The program is designed to help women alter the underlying behaviors that lead to incarceration, including counseling services for substance abuse, life skills course, family reunification support and bible study. Women receive targeted support to promote recovery and sobriety, as well as to orient them on a path to permanent reentry into the community after incarceration Staff and volunteers understand the role that domestic violence can play in the incarceration of women, and some courses specifically offer guidance on how best to navigate domestic abuse situations after incarceration. At this time, Through the Gate is only able to accept women without children living with them for its residential services.
