Transformative Justice Law Project
The Transformative Justice Law Project consists of a group of folks who believe in the power of communal care over systemic oppression. They are radical activists, legal workers, and organizers who provide support, advocacy, and free, holistic criminal legal services to poor and street-based transgender people in Illinois. They use their legal access and their privilege as people on the outside to further the prison abolition movement and support people on the inside. The Transformative Justice Law Project centers its values on care-based principles that work to dismantle the oppressive structures of the state. These values can be summed up into three different commitments that guide every aspect of our work: prison abolition, gender self-determination, and transformative justice. The Transformative Justice Law Projects' legal team also hopes to provide legal advocacy and support for trans and gender non-conforming people in jails and prisons across Illinois.
