University of Chicago Criminal and Juvenile Justice Clinic

The Criminal and Juvenile Justice Clinic is a subdivision of the University of Chicago Law School that serves indigent clients. Students in the law program gain real world experience by acting as legal representation for clients who cannot afford private attorneys. These student attorneys take the lead in their cases, conducting research and drafting court documents; however, all students act under the supervision of professors in the University of Chicago Law School. As the name suggests, students are tasked with assisting both adult and juvenile clients with legal issues. Additionally, students study legislation and legal theory around public education, generational poverty and historical injustices in the application of law. All those who serve in the Criminal and Juvenile Justice Clinic are deeply committed to helping to make the justice system more equitable and accessible for all individuals regardless of demographics or financial status.
