The Office of Public Defender for Alcovy Judicial Circuit serves indigent criminal defendants in Newton and Walton counties. The Walton County Public Defender's Office is located in Monroe, Georgia. With one Circuit Public Defender, one Chief Assistant Public Defender, six attorneys, one Juvenile Attorney, one Chief Investigator, two investigators and other support staff, the Walton County Public Defender's Office represents indigent clients who have pending criminal charges in the Superior and Juvenile Courts of Walton County. The Public Defender's Office for the Alcovy Judicial Circuit is part of the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council, an independent agency within the executive branch of Georgia's state government. The mission of the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council is to ensure, independently of political considerations or private interests, that each client whose cause has been entrusted to a circuit public defender receives zealous, adequate, effective, timely, and ethical legal representation, consistent with the guarantees of the Constitution of the State of Georgia, the Constitution of the United States and the mandates of the Georgia Indigent Defense Act of 2003.
