Wanda Joyce Robinson Foundation

The Wanda Joyce Robinson Foundation, Inc. (WJRF) is an independent, non-partisan, nonprofit organization based in Frankfort, Kentucky, serving children impacted by incarceration. WJRF represents "family," as in whole community: felon, caregiver, child/youth, law enforcement, the correctional system, school, mental health, government and business. Within this family, WJRF provides both prisoner and child mentorship, support to parents and caregivers, and connection to the community. They believe in a holistic approach to breaking the generational cycle of incarceration. WJRF's Amachi is a nationally based program specifically designed for children of the incarcerated. In addition, WJRF's A Familiar Voice is a literacy initiative where the prisoners record themselves reading a book to their children. The book, recording, and a bookmark is mailed to the child. Moreover, WJRF's Operation Making a Change (OMAC) is a youth intervention and prevention program that engages all people as a community resource. Also, the Kids Rising Up through Support and Healing (KRUSH) program is for students dealing with parents, guardians, and family members who have been incarcerated. They also have a training center- The King Center where the WJRF meets with children for 30 minutes in three small groups, including 1st and 2nd graders, 3rd and 4th graders, and 5th grade +. Groups focus on social, emotional and life skills topics. For more information on the programs offered by WJRF, please contact them directly.
