Section Title

Yolo County Conviction & Sentence Review Unit

The Yolo County Conviction and Sentence Review Unit is a subdivision of the Yolo County District Attorney's Office. The function of the office is to investigate all claims of innocence that include strong evidence to suggest that an individual has been wrongfully convicted. Most cases involve convictions of murder, sex-based crime or violent crime. However, the office may also investigate claims of innocence related to prosecutorial misconduct or cases that resulted in significant collateral consequence. Individuals must provide substantial scientific evidence to support claims of innocence. The evidence must be new to the case, or subject to testing with technology that was not available at the time of conviction. The office also investigates potential issues related to excessive sentencing. Whenever necessary, staff make recommendations that a sentence or conviction be revisited by the District Attorney based on available evidence. For more information about the work of the Yolo County Conviction and Sentence Review Unit, contact the office directly or through an attorney.
