40th Judicial District, LA Public Defender’s Office

The 40th Judicial District Public Defender's Office is located in Laplace, LA. With one Chief District Defender, one Deputy District Defender, ten Attorneys, two criminal investigators, the 40th Judicial District Public Defender's Office handles misdemeanor, felony, delinquency, abuse and neglect cases, as well as, defense of criminal matters involving child support enforcement in St. John the Baptist Parish. Their goal is to provide zealous defense of the indigent and protect the guarantees of the Louisiana and United States Constitutions. Moreover, their mission is to provide quality, professional, and caring legal representation for adults and juveniles eligible for court-appointed counsel in St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana. The St. John the Baptist Parish Public Defender Office is in the 40th Judicial District. The District Public Defender has led the local office. St. John the Baptist Public Defender Office, is not only focused on assisting clients throughout the legal process but also on guiding them as they transition and integrate into society, including the workforce, to prevent further contact with the criminal system. In addition, the B.E.R.T. (Bail, Expungement, Rehabilitation, Transitional) program is designed to support and elevate clients in reentry from prisons.
