Arkansas Voices for the Children Left Behind, Inc., a statewide not-for-profit organization that began in 1994. They define themselves as a grassroots coalition of groups dedicated to building community awareness of the growing number of incarcerated mothers and their children, along with community organizing of grandparents and other relative caregivers throughout the state. Arkansas Voices' mission is to advocate for children left behind by incarceration or the loss of a parent and to provide mentoring, services, and support with the goal of strengthening and empowering the family unit. In order to fulfill this mission, Arkansas Voices has a wide variety of programs ranging from Parenting Classes for Incarcerated Mothers and Fathers, Family Re-entry Planning, and Family and Individual Conferencing to School-Based Support Groups, Youth with Incarcerated Parents Support Groups, and Scholarship Awards. Arkansas Voices also hosts annual summits and public awareness events for children and caretakers who have been negatively impacted by the justice system.
