The Brooklyn Defender Services (BDS) has a Community Office located on Livonia Avenue. This office consists of ten Criminal Defense Attorneys, eight Family Defense Attorneys, five Immigration Attorneys, three Civil Justice Attorneys, Paralegals, Legal Assistants and other support staff. From Know Your Rights forums to their community office, BDS reaches beyond the individual people and families they represent to respond to Brooklynites’ urgent and emergent needs. The BDS Community Office provides direct services to people who need them in the community in which they live. It also serves as a hub for client meetings, where over one-third of clients reside. BDS also serves Brooklyn by providing information and referrals, advice and counsel, advocacy, legal representation, legal education and community workshops, collaborating with community-based organizations, and taking referrals from elected officials, nearby shelters, health centers, and school staff. Additionally, BDS hosts virtual Know-Your-Rights sessions, Facebook Live and Zoom-based legal education events, and other digital engagement tools to reach Brooklyn community members. If you wish to mail BDS, please do so at 177 Livingston St., 7th Fl. Brooklyn, NY 11201. For further assistance, please contact the Community Office.
